Play With Our Live (And Updated!) Stock Spreadsheet

For the TL;DR, go here.

Last April, we put out the first build of our live stock spreadsheet, a tool that we use to help keep tabs on the broader world of public technology companies.

As time passed, we’ve updated our own, private version of the document. But today we’re sending all that over the public version, so it now has more data points, the rest of the 2017 IPO class, and the still-budding 2018 IPO class.

A big thanks to our own Savannah Dowling for helping get the entire thing into shape, and, of course, to our dear, anonymous friend who helped behind the scenes to get the original Google Finance API skulduggery up and running. (And a big thanks to Google for not kneecapping the Google Finance API itself, even after they cut the head off of Google Finance itself.)

Anyhoo, head here for the new document.

Now, onto some notes. Obviously, up top, we’re looking at the biggest companies in tech, which explains itself. But the IPO sections are worth a short note. The rules are the same, mostly, as the dictates that we follow on the News blog itself. We are dealing with domestic and global tech companies that have listed domestically during the year period. So you can have your headquarters anywhere, but have to prefer the NYSE or Nasdaq to any other exchange to make it into our listed IPO classes.

We live by that distinction as the U.S. markets are the only places where we know enough to not get ourselves in trouble. We’ll expand to European and Asian IPOs as soon as we can.

Otherwise, have fun and email in with comments, suggestions, and rude gestures.
