The tech and VC world is not particularly disposed to celebrating holidays or annual traditions, perhaps with one exception: the release of Mary Meeker’s epic Internet Trends Report. Today, at ReCode‘s Code Conference, the veteran Kleiner Perkins partner and patron saint of slide decks dropped some knowledge about the current state of the Internet.

This year’s report is notable for a number of reasons, not least of which is its size. At 294 slides in total, it’s second only to last year’s epic deck, the size of which Crunchbase News covered at the time.
The chart below shows the length of reports compiled by Meeker and her colleagues stretching all the way back to 2004.
The 61-slide decline between 2017 and 2018 marks a seventeen percent slide, the largest such slip since 2009.
Of course, as we noted last year, the report’s scope has only managed to grow over the years following Meeker’s transition from Morgan Stanley to a partner role at Kleiner Perkins in late 2010.
The informational largesse of Meeker and the team of folks who put together this report every year is appreciated by founders, venture capitalists, researchers, and, yes, technology reporters.
