Netflix Sensation Marie Kondo In Talks To Raise A Tidy $40M

It seems that everyone is jumping on the minimalist bandwagon these days, and that’s likely due in large part to the popularity of a Netflix show called “Tidying Up With Marie Kondo.”

Now the personality behind it, (yes, you guessed it) Japanese author Marie Kondo, is looking to capitalize on her growing fame. The organization guru is reportedly in the process of raising up to $40 million in VC funding to grow Kon Mari, the business entity behind her personal brand, books and TV show, reports TechCrunch. In particular, she’s looking to create an e-commerce platform, according to the publication.

Apparently, it wouldn’t be the first time Kondo’s raised money. She reportedly raised a small undisclosed round last year that was led by Sequoia Capital. No comment thus far on that reported raise.

Kondo’s show, which focuses on her “efficient method of cleaning and organizing,” first aired on Netflix January 1. However, her advice to viewers to question whether an item “sparks joy” has caused some controversy, especially among book lovers.
