I’m very excited to announce that Crunchbase News welcomes a new reporter to our newsroom today. Chris Metinko joins our staff as a senior reporter based in San Francisco and will help lead our coverage of startups, innovation and the venture capital world.
He joins Crunchbase News from Mergermarket, where he covered M&A, funding and the equity capital markets, involving both private and public tech companies, for that publication and its sister service, Dealreporter. Chris has a track record of breaking scoops and writing thoughtful, data-driven analysis in his seven years at Mergermarket. An alumnus of the University of Michigan, he has been a reporter in the Bay Area for more than two decades, previously working at newspapers including the Contra Costa Times and Oakland Tribune.

I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Chris to the team here at Crunchbase. You can reach him at email@example.com.
Along with Chris’ arrival, we’ve had a number of other changes here at Crunchbase News in recent months that may be of interest to readers:
• Gené Teare has been with Crunchbase for 12 years in a variety of roles around data management, research and analysis, including working with the team of journalists here at Crunchbase News on our data-driven reporting. She’s now more formally entrenched in the newsroom as our senior data journalist, tapping into her deep knowledge of the startup ecosystem and agility with the Crunchbase dataset. Her recent coverage includes an analysis of active investor cohorts through the pandemic and our Q3 global funding report. You can reach Gené at firstname.lastname@example.org.
• Sophia Kunthara, who previously covered all aspects of the late-stage venture scene, now covers the following beats across all stages: hospitality, travel and tourism, real estate and property tech, media and entertainment tech, edtech, and transportation and AI. Recent highlights from her coverage include a profile of Sutter Hill Ventures, the low-profile VC firm involved in some big exits this year, and an analysis of COVID-19’s impact on the co-living sector. Sophia’s email is email@example.com.
• Christine Hall, whose previous coverage mandate was also pretty broad, now focuses on covering the fintech, e-commerce, healthtech, biotech, agriculture and foodtech sectors for us. Among her top stories recently: An analysis of the growing number of highly funded startups involved in the food supply system and a fascinating piece exploring the growing trend of “rebundling” among fintechs. Contact Christine at firstname.lastname@example.org.
• Joanna Glasner, a veteran business and tech reporter who curates our news coverage for the Crunchbase Daily, now has a new weekly column that follows trends in funding and data. Her first two installments focus on funding to search startups in the context of Google’s antitrust fight, and dealmaking and valuations in the telehealth sector this year. Joanna can be reached at email@example.com.
As always, we love hearing from readers about what they’d like to see in our coverage. Feel free to reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your thoughts on what you most look for from Crunchbase News, and please get in touch with our reporters if you have tips, story ideas or feedback for them.
